Bio

My name is Liz Navarro and I came to the US when I was 15. I’m currently a ceramics teaching artist and entrepreneur in Los Angeles. Not having a legal status has been frustrating but it has never stopped me from pursuing and achieving my goals. My circumstances have taught me to be resilient, resourceful, and determined throughout my life. I discovered ceramics in community college and it immediately became my passion. I graduated with a BFA in Ceramics at CSULB in 2011. Art has been a way to find my voice and express my experience of being an undocumented student turned professional living in America for almost 20 years. As an art educator, my goal is to expose students to the possibilities and healing that art and creativity can offer them. I strive to be the bridge that guides them as they navigate through life's challenges. I want my students to see themselves reflected in me.I’m a Latina artist and business owner and no matter what cards I’m dealt, I will never give up on my dreams. You can find more of my artwork at www.lizbethnavarro.com and on instagram @lizceramics #lizbethnavarroceramics #lizbethceramics #lizceramics

What the Undocuprofessionals means to you?

Being UndocuProfessional means being courageous and not allowing my circumstances to stall my potential. It means that I am not defined by my status — I am an artist, an educator, a sister, an aunt, a friend, and so much more. But most importantly, it’s being part of a community of resilient and strong individuals who share similar challenges, goals, and stories.
