Description
CUNY-IIE Faculty Application for Immigration-Focused Fellowship
We invite education faculty to participate in a CUNY-IIE professional development workshop series focused on redesigning existing syllabi with a focus on immigration and education. This pilot program aims to equip tenured and tenure-track faculty from any institution of higher education in New York State––specifically those within schools of education who teach in-service or pre-service educators––with resources and scholarship that can support them in teaching about the intersections between immigration and education in their classes. Throughout the Spring 2025 semester, participating faculty will attend four monthly sessions, while also completing scaffolded assignments before, during, and in between sessions that will facilitate their syllabus redesign. In addition, the facilitators will offer faculty participants optional "soundboarding sessions" in order to foster collaboration and support. This professional development opportunity seeks to deepen faculty participants' understanding of the intersections between education focused course content and the experiences of immigrant-origin students, with the goal of better-preparing in-service and pre-service teachers to support their immigrant-origin students by creating a more inclusive learning environment.
